Massachusetts Hospitals Ranked Among the Best in America

Massachusetts continues to stand out in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025–2026 Best Hospitals rankings, with several of its leading institutions earning national recognition for clinical excellence.

Mass General Brigham's premier hospitals Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), McLean, Mass Eye and Ear, and Spaulding Rehabilitation have all secured spots among the nation’s top hospitals. Both MGH and BWH are once again featured on the prestigious “Honor Roll”, recognizing their broad excellence across multiple specialties (Mass General Brigham).

Specialty rankings further underscore their standout performance:

• McLean Hospital clinched #2 in the nation for Psychiatry.
• Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital tied for #2 in Rehabilitation.
• Mass Eye and Ear ranked #4 in Ophthalmology and rose to #5 in Otolaryngology (ENT) (Mass General Brigham).

Both academic centers also scored highly in cancer care, ranking among the top five nationally (Mass General Brigham). In addition, BWH dominated Obstetrics & Gynecology, earning the #1 position for a fourth consecutive year, while MGH held onto the #1 rank in Psychiatry for a second year in a row (Mass General Brigham).

Together, MGH and BWH achieved top 10 national rankings in 13 specialties, including:

• MGH: Psychiatry (#1), Ophthalmology (#4), Cancer (#5), ENT (#5), Rheumatology (#6), Diabetes & Endocrinology (#8), Cardiology & Heart Surgery (#8), Gastroenterology & GI Surgery (#9), Neurology & Neurosurgery (#10).
• BWH: Obstetrics & Gynecology (#1), Diabetes & Endocrinology (#3), Cancer (with DanaFarber Cancer Institute) (#3), Rheumatology (#4) (Mass General Brigham).

Regionally, additional Mass General Brigham institutions also received accolades. NewtonWellesley Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital were recognized as high performers across various procedures and specialties, while Salem Hospital earned similar honors (Mass General Brigham).

This comprehensive performance reflects Massachusetts’ sustained leadership in American healthcare, showcasing both academic and specialist institutions delivering toptier care across a broad range of medical fields.
